Possible Causes
Tripped immersion heater thermostat, Failed immersion element, Off-peak supply not energising, Faulty cylinder thermostat or control box
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Isolate electrical power before removing immersion covers. Water may still be hot inside the cylinder.
Steps to diagnose:
- 1. Check power supply: Verify that the circuit breaker or fused spur for the cylinder is on and the fuse is intact.
- 2. Reset immersion thermostat: Remove the immersion heater cover and press the reset button on the thermostat. Ensure the temperature setting is correct (around 60°C).
- 3. Listen for heating: After restoring power, listen for a gentle humming from the immersion. If silent and water remains cold after several hours, suspect a failed element or thermostat.
- 4. Electrical tests (competent persons only): Check for voltage at the immersion terminals when heating is demanded. If voltage is present but no heating, replace the immersion heater. If no voltage, trace back through the cylinder thermostat and any time controls.
- 5. Replace faulty components: Fit a genuine Heatrae Sadia immersion heater and thermostat if required, using a new gasket. Refill and vent the system if drained.
