Possible Causes
Failed immersion heater gasket, Loose compression fittings, Corroded cylinder shell, Leaking temperature and pressure relief valve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Isolate electrical power immediately if water is leaking near electrical components. Close the cold water supply to the cylinder to limit leakage. Hot water and pressure can be hazardous.
Steps to locate and address leak:
- 1. Identify source: Dry the area and observe where water first appears—around immersion bosses, pipe connections, or from the casing seams.
- 2. Tighten fittings: For accessible compression joints, gently tighten with appropriate spanners. Do not overtighten.
- 3. Replace immersion gasket: If water seeps around the immersion flange, drain the cylinder below that level, remove the immersion, clean the seating, and fit a new gasket.
- 4. Check safety valves: If water is discharging from the temperature and pressure relief valve or expansion relief valve, investigate system pressure and replace the valve if it does not reseat.
- 5. Cylinder shell leaks: If water appears from under the insulation or from welded seams, the cylinder itself is likely corroded or split and must be replaced. Do not attempt to repair the shell.
