Possible Causes

Stuck flow switch, Blocked flow turbine, Limescale or debris in flow sensor, Faulty reed switch or Hall sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off power and isolate water supply to the heater. Relieve pressure by opening a hot tap.

  • Check for flow: Open a hot tap fully and confirm that water flow is strong. Poor flow may indicate a plumbing restriction rather than a sensor fault.
  • Inspect flow sensor: On Ideal water heaters, the flow sensor is usually on the cold inlet or hydraulic block. Check the electrical connector is secure.
  • Clean filter/strainer: If accessible, remove and clean any inlet filter or strainer to clear debris.
  • Reset and test: Restore water, then power, and reset the unit. If F7 persists, the internal flow sensor assembly may need replacement by a technician.
