Possible Causes
Blocked inlet filter, Stuck flow sensor turbine, Faulty flow switch, Closed isolation valve on cold inlet
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power and close the cold water isolation valve before removing any filters.
- Check isolation valves: Ensure the cold water inlet valve to the heater is fully open.
- Clean inlet filter: Remove the cold inlet filter/strainer (usually at the bottom of the heater or on the inlet union). Rinse under running water to remove debris.
- Check flow sensor movement: If visible, confirm the flow turbine spins freely when water is turned on.
- Test again: Reassemble, open the inlet valve, and run a hot tap. If the heater still does not start, the flow sensor or switch may need replacement by a technician.
