Possible Causes
No gas at burner, Incorrect gas pressure, Dirty or mispositioned ionization electrode, Faulty gas valve coil
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: If you smell gas, do not attempt to relight. Ventilate the area and contact gas emergency services.
- Verify gas supply: Confirm the gas shutoff valve to the heater is open and other gas appliances work.
- Check for air in gas line: After gas work or long shutdowns, air may be in the line. Several ignition attempts may be needed, but do not repeatedly reset more than a few times.
- Clean ionization electrode: With power and gas off, remove the combustion cover. Clean the ionization rod with fine abrasive pad and ensure it is correctly positioned in the flame path.
- Inspect gas valve wiring: Ensure the gas valve connector is firmly attached and wires are not damaged.
- Professional gas pressure check: If EA persists, a technician must measure inlet and burner pressure and test the gas valve.
