Possible Causes
Corroded leak sensor contacts, damaged sensor wiring, sensor out of position, failed control board leak detection circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn OFF power before handling the leak sensor wiring.
- Locate sensor: Find the leak sensor at the base or in the drain pan. Remove it from any standing water and dry completely.
- Inspect contacts: Check for corrosion or mineral deposits on the sensor contacts. Clean gently with fine sandpaper or a small brush.
- Check wiring: Follow the sensor cable to the control board. Look for cuts, pinches, or loose connectors. Repair or replace damaged wiring.
- Test sensor: Some sensors can be tested by checking continuity when the contacts are bridged with a damp cloth. Replace the leak sensor assembly if it does not respond correctly.
- Control board: If a new sensor does not clear E31, the main control board may have a failed leak detection circuit and require replacement.
