Possible Causes
One element not working (electric), incorrect element wattage installed, sediment covering elements, low gas input (gas models), partially closed gas or water valves
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn OFF power or gas before testing components.
- Check supply valves: Ensure the cold water supply valve is fully open and, on gas models, the gas shutoff valve is fully open.
- Verify element operation: On electric models, test both upper and lower elements and thermostats for proper function. Replace any failed heating element or thermostat.
- Confirm element wattage: Compare installed element wattage to the rating plate. Replace with correct wattage elements if undersized.
- Flush sediment: Drain and flush the tank to remove sediment that can insulate elements or burner surfaces.
- Gas input check: On gas models, have a technician verify manifold gas pressure and burner performance.
