Possible Causes
Thermal expansion in closed system, Faulty or contaminated safety valve, Excessive inlet pressure, Incorrect installation without expansion vessel
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Hot water from the relief valve can cause burns. Do not cap or block the discharge pipe.
- 1. Check temperature: Ensure the heater is not overheating; verify setpoint and operation.
- 2. Measure inlet pressure: If possible, measure cold-water pressure. Install or adjust a pressure-reducing valve if pressure exceeds Kospel’s limits.
- 3. Expansion control: In closed systems, install an appropriately sized expansion vessel on the hot-water line.
- 4. Test valve: Operate the relief valve manually to flush debris. If it continues to drip, replace it with a new valve of the correct rating.
