E016
Lochinvar
Condensate Drain / Trap Fault
Lochinvar heater shows E016; may be associated with condensate leakage or gurgling sounds.

Possible Causes
Blocked condensate trap, Kinked condensate drain hose, Improper condensate line slope, Frozen condensate line
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power before working near electrical components. Condensate may be mildly acidic; wear gloves and eye protection.
Steps:
- 1. Inspect condensate trap: Locate the factory condensate trap on the bottom of the heat exchanger. Remove and flush it with clean water to clear debris or sludge.
- 2. Check drain line: Ensure the condensate hose is not kinked and slopes continuously downward to the drain. Correct any sags or upward loops.
- 3. Clear blockage: Use a wet/dry vacuum at the end of the condensate line to pull out obstructions. Do not blow back into the heater.
- 4. Freeze protection: In cold climates, insulate or heat-trace exposed condensate lines to prevent freezing.
- 5. Reset and test: After clearing, restore power and verify that condensate flows freely during operation and that E016 clears.
