Possible Causes
Improper recirculation piping, Oversized heater for load, Faulty flow sensor, Thermostat differential set too narrow
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power before adjusting internal controls. Water may be hot; use caution at fixtures.
Steps:
- 1. Check flow rate: Ensure fixtures are drawing enough water to meet the heater's minimum flow requirement. Very low flow can cause cycling.
- 2. Inspect recirculation setup: Verify that the recirc return is piped to the correct connection per Lochinvar diagrams and that check valves are installed to prevent backflow.
- 3. Test flow sensor: Clean or replace the flow sensor if it is sticking or giving erratic signals.
- 4. Adjust control settings: On models with adjustable differential or anti-short-cycle settings, widen the temperature differential slightly to reduce rapid cycling (follow the installation manual).
