Possible Causes
Dirty flame rod, Poor grounding of burner assembly, Incorrect gas/air mixture, Partially blocked burner or heat exchanger
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn OFF power and gas before opening the unit.
Steps:
- 1. Clean flame rod: Remove the flame rod and clean the metal probe with fine steel wool. Ensure the mounting surface is clean and the screws are tight to provide a good ground.
- 2. Inspect ground connections: Trace the ground wire from the burner assembly to the chassis and ensure it is tight and corrosion-free.
- 3. Check for soot or debris: Look at the burner and visible parts of the heat exchanger for soot buildup or debris that could affect combustion. Lightly vacuum if accessible.
- 4. Venting check: Confirm intake and exhaust are not restricted and that condensate is draining properly (standing condensate can affect combustion).
If E012 recurs, a technician should check combustion with an analyzer and adjust gas valve settings or replace the flame rod if the signal remains weak.
