Possible Causes
Expansion vessel pre-charge too low, failed expansion vessel diaphragm, safety valve not sealing properly, excessive mains pressure without pressure reducer
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: The discharge pipe may be hot. Do not cap or block it; it is a safety device.
- Step 1 – Check discharge pattern:
- Occasional dripping during heating is normal; continuous flow indicates a problem.
- Step 2 – Verify expansion vessel:
- With the system depressurized, measure and adjust the expansion vessel pre-charge to Nibe’s specification.
- Step 3 – Inspect safety valve:
- Operate the test lever briefly to clear debris, then release and check if it seals.
- Step 4 – Check mains pressure:
- If mains pressure is high, ensure a pressure reducing valve is installed and correctly set.
If the safety valve continues to discharge excessively, replace it and recheck expansion vessel function.
