Possible Causes
Failed combustion fan motor, Blocked fan wheel, Faulty fan speed feedback signal, Loose fan wiring harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power and gas. Wait for moving parts to stop before touching the fan area.
Steps to check and correct:
- Inspect fan area: Remove the front cover and visually inspect the combustion fan assembly. Look for debris, insect nests, or foreign objects in the fan wheel. Remove obstructions carefully.
- Check fan wiring: Verify that the fan motor connector is fully seated at the motor and PCB. Look for burnt or damaged wires.
- Spin test: Gently spin the fan wheel by hand (with power off). It should rotate freely without grinding. If it is stiff or noisy, the fan motor may need replacement.
- Reset and test: Restore power and run the unit. If error 42 persists, the fan motor or PCB fan driver circuit is likely defective and should be replaced by a Noritz technician.
