Possible Causes

Perished or compressed element gasket, Improperly torqued element flange, Corrosion on cylinder boss, Incorrect replacement gasket used

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF power and isolate the cold water supply. Allow the cylinder to cool before draining.

  • Relieve pressure: Open a hot tap to relieve pressure in the cylinder.
  • Drain below leak level: Use the drain valve to lower the water level below the element flange.
  • Remove element: Disconnect wiring, undo the flange or threaded boss, and remove the element.
  • Clean sealing surfaces: Carefully clean the cylinder boss and element flange of old gasket material and corrosion.
  • Fit new gasket: Install a new Oso‑compatible gasket and refit the element, tightening evenly to the specified torque.
  • Refill and check: Refill the cylinder, bleed air, and check for leaks before restoring power.
