Possible Causes
Defective fan tachometer sensor, Blocked or stiff fan impeller, Broken tachometer wiring, Faulty fan control circuit on PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and gas. Beware of sharp edges when working around the fan and flue.
- Inspect fan: Check that the fan impeller spins freely by hand. Remove any debris or corrosion.
- Check tachometer wiring: Locate the tachometer connector on the fan and trace the cable to the PCB. Ensure it is intact and firmly connected.
- Observe fan speed: With the cover off and power restored briefly, start a demand and observe if the fan reaches normal speed. If it starts then stops, the tach signal may be missing.
- Replace fan assembly: If the tach sensor is integrated and faulty, replace the complete fan unit with the correct Protherm spare.
- PCB diagnosis: If a known-good fan still triggers F14, the fan control circuit on the PCB may be defective and require board replacement.
Warning: After fan replacement, verify correct flue operation and perform combustion checks.
