Reliance
Normal Condensation or Minor Fitting Leaks
Condensation or water pooling on top of or around Reliance water heater shortly after installation

Possible Causes
Cold water entering warm environment causing tank sweating, High humidity in installation area, Slight seepage at new fittings, Inadequate insulation on cold pipes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Verify that water is not coming from the T&P valve or a major leak. Turn OFF power or gas if you suspect a leak from the tank itself.
Steps to check:
- 1. Identify source: Wipe all surfaces dry and observe where moisture reappears. Condensation usually forms evenly on cool surfaces; leaks appear at joints or valves.
- 2. Tighten new fittings: Gently snug any slightly damp threaded or compression fittings on hot and cold lines.
- 3. Insulate cold piping: Add foam pipe insulation to cold water lines near the heater to reduce sweating.
- 4. Improve ventilation: Increase airflow in the heater area to reduce humidity and condensation.
- 5. Monitor over time: Normal condensation often decreases after the first few days of operation. Persistent localized wet spots may indicate a leak that needs repair.
Note: If moisture appears to seep from under the jacket or from weld seams, the tank may be defective and require replacement.
