Possible Causes
Clogged condensate trap, Kinked condensate drain hose, Frozen condensate line, Improper condensate drain slope
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power. Condensate is mildly acidic; wear gloves and eye protection.
- Inspect trap and line: Locate the condensate trap at the bottom of the unit. Check for standing water, debris, or slime buildup.
- Clean trap: Remove the trap per Rheem instructions, flush with clean water, and reinstall.
- Check hose routing: Ensure the condensate hose slopes continuously downward with no sags or kinks and terminates at an approved drain.
- Address freezing: In cold climates, insulate or heat-trace the condensate line to prevent freezing.
- Reset and test: Restore power and run the unit. If E29 returns, the condensate sensor or control board may be faulty.
