Possible Causes
Blocked condensate drain line, Full or clogged condensate trap, Saturated condensate neutralizer media, Improper condensate line slope
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power. Condensate is mildly acidic—wear gloves and eye protection when handling.
- Inspect condensate line: Locate the clear or white plastic condensate drain tubing from the heater. Check for kinks, sags filled with water, or blockages. Clear any obstructions and ensure a continuous downward slope to the drain.
- Clean condensate trap: If your Richmond model has a removable condensate trap, detach it carefully and flush with clean water to remove sludge or debris. Reinstall, ensuring seals are tight.
- Check neutralizer: If equipped with a condensate neutralizer cartridge, inspect the media. If it is disintegrated or heavily coated, replace the neutralizer per manufacturer instructions.
- Verify drain termination: Ensure the condensate line terminates at an approved drain and is not submerged or blocked.
- Reset and test: Restore power and run the heater. If error 29 persists, a technician should inspect internal condensate passages.
