Possible Causes
Tripped ECO reset, Failed upper heating element, Loose supply wiring, Burned upper thermostat contacts
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the breaker and verify no voltage at the heater before opening panels.
- Reset ECO: Press the red reset button on the upper thermostat. If it clicks, it was tripped.
- Check supply voltage: Verify that 240V (or appropriate voltage) is present at the heater terminals with a multimeter (only if qualified).
- Test upper element: With power OFF and wires removed, measure resistance across the upper element. Replace if open.
- Inspect thermostat: Look for burnt or pitted contacts on the upper thermostat. Replace the thermostat if damaged or if it does not switch power to the lower circuit when the upper portion of the tank is hot.
