How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power and gas before servicing. Hot surfaces and gas components can be hazardous.
- Step 1 – Check vent and air intake: Inspect both intake and exhaust terminations for obstructions. Clear any debris or ice.
- Step 2 – Inspect burner and flame rod: Remove the front cover. Check the burner surface for rust, dust, or debris. Carefully vacuum and clean. Remove the flame rod and gently clean it with fine emery cloth to remove oxidation.
- Step 3 – Verify gas supply stability: If other gas appliances fluctuate or go out, contact your gas supplier. Gas pressure should be checked with a manometer by a professional.
- Step 4 – Check wiring: Ensure all connections between the flame rod and control board are tight and undamaged.
- Step 5 – Replace flame rod or control board: If cleaning and wiring checks fail, replace the OEM Ruud flame rod. If the problem persists, the control board flame sensing circuit may require replacement by a technician.
