Possible Causes
Failed fan motor, Seized fan bearings, Loose fan wiring, Control board fan driver failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power and gas. Moving parts and live circuits can be dangerous.
- Step 1 – Inspect fan wiring: Remove the front cover and check the fan motor connector and harness for damage. Reseat the connector.
- Step 2 – Check fan rotation: Gently spin the fan wheel by hand. If it is stiff or seized, the motor is likely bad.
- Step 3 – Replace fan motor assembly: Disconnect wiring, remove mounting screws, and install a new OEM Ruud combustion fan assembly. Ensure gaskets are properly seated.
If the new fan does not resolve error 61, the control board may need replacement by a technician.
