Possible Causes
Faulty cold water inlet NTC, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Poor contact in sensor clip, Control board input fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Isolate power before working inside the heater.
Steps:
- Identify inlet NTC: Find the sensor on the cold water inlet or return line to the heat exchanger.
- Check connector: Unplug and replug the sensor connector to clean contacts. Inspect for moisture or corrosion.
- Check cable routing: Ensure the cable is not pinched or damaged by the casing.
- Measure resistance: With a multimeter, compare resistance to the DHW NTC at similar temperature. If the inlet NTC is open or shorted, replace it.
Professional help: If both NTCs are good, the main control board may have a defective sensor input and should be checked by a professional.
