Safety: Turn off power or gas and close the cold water supply valve immediately to limit water damage.

• Confirm source: Dry the area and inspect for leaks from fittings, drain valve, or T&P valve. If water is seeping from the tank body or insulation, the tank is leaking.
• Do not attempt repair: A leaking tank cannot be safely repaired. The entire water heater must be replaced.
• Drain and replace: Attach a hose to the drain valve, open a hot faucet, and drain the tank. Contact a licensed plumber or installer to replace the heater with an appropriate State model.
