Possible Causes

Severely corroded flame rod, Faulty flame detection circuit on PCB, Incorrect burner grounding, Excessive wind at vent termination

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF power and gas. Flame detection faults can be related to unsafe combustion conditions.

Steps:

  • 1. Inspect outdoor conditions: For outdoor or direct-vent units, check if strong wind is blowing directly into the vent terminal. Install a wind guard or relocate the termination if necessary (professional work).
  • 2. Clean or replace flame rod: Remove the flame rod, clean thoroughly, and inspect for pitting or cracks. If damaged, replace with a genuine Takagi flame rod.
  • 3. Check burner ground path: Ensure burner assembly is firmly mounted and free of heavy rust at contact points. Tighten mounting screws to maintain a solid electrical ground.
  • 4. Wiring and PCB: Inspect the flame rod wire for damage and secure connection to the PCB. If all mechanical causes are ruled out and error 1211 persists, the control board’s flame detection circuit may be faulty and should be replaced by a technician.
