How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power and allow the heater to cool before opening any ports. Water may be discolored and hot.

Steps:

  • Drain partially: Lower water level below the anode rod connection (often combined with the flange or separate top port).
  • Remove anode: Unscrew the Tesy magnesium anode rod and inspect. If it is heavily worn or almost gone, it must be replaced.
  • Flush tank: Drain and flush the tank to remove rust and sediment.
  • Install new anode: Fit a new magnesium anode of the correct size and thread for your Tesy model. Use thread sealant if specified.
  • Refill and monitor: Refill the tank, bleed air, and restore power. The smell should gradually diminish as fresh water cycles through.

Note: If the tank is severely corroded and leaking, replacement of the entire heater is required.
