Possible Causes
Deteriorated element flange gasket, loose flange bolts, corrosion around flange opening, cracked enamel tank
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and close the cold water inlet valve. Allow the heater to cool before draining.
Steps:
- Identify leak source: Remove the lower cover and observe where water is coming from—flange gasket, sensor well, or tank seam.
- Tighten flange: If the leak is minor at the flange, gently tighten the flange nuts in a criss-cross pattern. Do not overtighten.
- Replace gasket: If tightening does not help, drain the tank completely, remove the flange, clean mating surfaces, and install a new Tesy flange gasket. Reinstall the flange and tighten evenly.
- Check for tank corrosion: If the tank wall around the flange is heavily corroded or cracked, the tank is unsafe and the entire heater must be replaced.
- Refill and check: Refill the tank, leave under pressure, and check for leaks before restoring power.
