Possible Causes

Open or shorted outlet temperature sensor, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Poor sensor contact with piping, Control board input fault

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power. Piping may be hot; use gloves when touching near the outlet sensor.

  • Locate the outlet sensor: Find the NTC sensor strapped or inserted near the hot water outlet or supply header. Note its wiring path back to the control.
  • Inspect wiring: Check for loose plugs, broken insulation, or pinched wires. Reseat any plug-in connectors at both the sensor and control board.
  • Check sensor mounting: Ensure the sensor is firmly attached to the pipe or properly inserted into its well, with thermal paste if originally provided. Loose sensors can give inaccurate readings.
  • Compare resistance (advanced): With power off and wires disconnected, measure sensor resistance with a multimeter and compare to the temperature/resistance chart in the Weil-McLain manual. Replace the sensor if readings are far out of range.
  • Replace if faulty: If wiring is intact and the sensor tests bad, install a new OEM outlet temperature sensor and clear any stored fault codes.
