Possible Causes
Weak thermopile, dirty pilot orifice, poor combustion air, loose thermopile connection at gas valve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn gas control knob to OFF and wait several minutes.
Pilot and thermopile checks:
- Remove the burner access cover to view the pilot assembly.
- Clean the pilot orifice and surrounding area with compressed air and a soft brush.
- Ensure the pilot flame is strong and engulfing the thermopile tip when lit.
- Tighten thermopile connection screws at the gas control valve.
Corrective actions:
- Replace a weak thermopile if it cannot generate sufficient millivoltage to hold the gas valve open.
- If a new thermopile and clean pilot still fail, replace the gas control valve.
