Possible Causes
Open/shorted evaporator thermistor, sensor not properly attached to coil, damaged harness, control board fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power at the breaker.
Sensor inspection:
- Access the heat pump compartment and locate the evaporator coil and attached sensor.
- Verify the sensor is firmly clipped or strapped to the coil where specified by Whirlpool.
- Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to the manufacturer's chart for the current ambient temperature.
- Inspect wiring for chafing against metal edges or fan components.
Corrective actions:
- Replace the evaporator sensor if readings are out of range or intermittent when the wire is flexed.
- Secure the new sensor firmly to the coil for accurate readings.
- If the error persists with a new sensor, replace the main control board.
