Possible Causes
Failed discharge thermistor, sensor detached from discharge line, wiring damage near compressor, control board sensor circuit failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power at the breaker. Do not cut or open refrigerant lines.
Sensor checks:
- Locate the discharge temperature sensor on the compressor discharge line (small copper tube leaving the compressor).
- Ensure the sensor is tightly clamped to the line and insulated as designed.
- Disconnect and measure resistance with a multimeter, comparing to Whirlpool's chart.
- Inspect wiring for heat damage or rubbing on sharp edges.
Corrective actions:
- Replace the discharge sensor if resistance is incorrect or intermittent.
- Secure and insulate the new sensor properly.
- If F14 remains, the control board may misread the sensor and require replacement.
