Possible Causes
Tripped breaker, tripped high-limit reset, failed upper heating element, failed upper thermostat
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the breaker and verify power is off at the heater junction box.
Checks:
- Reset the home breaker once if tripped.
- Remove the upper access panel and press the red reset button on the high-limit thermostat.
- With power OFF, test the upper element for continuity; replace if open.
- Test the upper thermostat for proper switching using a multimeter; replace if defective.
Note: On two-element heaters, if the upper system fails, the lower element will not energize, resulting in no hot water.
