Possible Causes
Excessive system pressure, thermal expansion without expansion tank, faulty T&P valve, overheating water
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not cap or plug the T&P discharge. Turn OFF power or gas if water is extremely hot.
Checks:
- Measure static water pressure; if above 80 psi, install or service a pressure-reducing valve and expansion tank.
- Verify water temperature is not above setpoint; check thermostats or gas control.
- If pressure and temperature are normal but valve still drips, replace the T&P valve with the correct rating.
