Possible Causes
Failed backup capacitor or battery on control board, Unstable power supply, Loose power adapter connection
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the softener before handling the control module.
- Verify power source: Confirm the outlet is delivering stable 120V AC and is not controlled by a switch or timer. Avoid plugging the softener into a power strip with other heavy loads.
- Check power adapter: Inspect the AFWFilters power adapter for damage, overheating, or loose plug. Ensure the low-voltage connector is fully seated in the control valve.
- Reset and reprogram: Perform a power reset (unplug 5–10 minutes), then reprogram the time and regeneration settings. Monitor whether the time drifts or resets.
- Inspect control board: If accessible, visually inspect the board for a leaking or swollen backup capacitor or battery. These components are not usually field-serviceable; if damaged, replace the entire control board.
- Replace control board: If ERR5 continues and power is stable, install a new control PCB compatible with your AFWFilters valve.
