Possible Causes
Stuck or clogged turbine, Failed flow sensor, Broken flow meter wiring, Incorrect flow meter installation direction
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Close inlet and outlet valves and depressurize the system before removing any fittings.
- Check for flow restriction: Bypass the softener using the AFWFilters bypass valve. If water flows normally in bypass, the restriction is inside the softener.
- Inspect flow meter: Locate the flow meter (often at the outlet side of the control valve). Remove it according to the manual. Check the turbine for debris, iron sludge, or scale. Clean gently with water and a soft brush.
- Verify orientation: Ensure the flow meter is reinstalled in the correct direction (arrow pointing in the direction of water flow).
- Check wiring: Inspect the flow sensor cable from the meter to the control board. Look for cuts, pinches, or loose connectors. Reseat the connector.
- Test operation: Restore water and power, take the unit out of bypass, and run water at a faucet. The display should show flow. If ERR7 persists, replace the flow meter assembly.
