Possible Causes
Broken bottom distributor screen, Cracked distributor tube, Overfilled resin tank, Excessive backwash flow
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Resin beads are not toxic but can clog fixtures. Turn off water before disassembling the softener.
- Clean fixtures: Remove and clean faucet aerators and showerheads to restore flow.
- Inspect resin tank internals: Remove the control valve and check the distributor tube and bottom screen. If the screen is broken or the tube is cracked, replace them.
- Check resin level: Ensure the tank is not overfilled with resin; leave appropriate freeboard space as specified by AFWFilters.
- Replace lost resin: After repairing internals, add new cation resin to restore capacity and flush the system thoroughly before use.
