Possible Causes
Fouled resin bed, Undersized softener for flow demand, Clogged inlet screen, Partially closed bypass or shutoff valves
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Use caution when adjusting valves to avoid sudden pressure changes.
- Bypass test: Place the softener in BYPASS. If pressure improves significantly, the restriction is within the softener.
- Check valves: Ensure inlet and outlet valves and the bypass are fully open in SERVICE mode.
- Inspect inlet screen: Remove and clean any inlet screen or pre-filter that may be clogged with sediment.
- Resin condition: If the resin is heavily fouled with iron or sediment, perform a resin cleaning with an approved cleaner or replace the resin media.
- System sizing: If your peak flow demand exceeds the softener’s rated service flow, consider upgrading to a larger AFWFilters system.
