Softener causes noticeable water hammer or banging pipes during regeneration

Safety: High water pressure can damage plumbing; use a pressure gauge to verify.

• Measure pressure: Attach a pressure gauge to a nearby faucet. If static pressure exceeds 80 psi, install or adjust a pressure-reducing valve.
• Slow valve transitions: Some AFWFilters controls allow adjustment of cycle start times; ensure the unit regenerates at night when demand is low.
• Install arrestors: Consider installing water hammer arrestors near the softener or at problem fixtures.
• Secure piping: Check that pipes near the softener are properly strapped and not loose.
