AFWFilters
Hydraulic shock during valve cycling
Softener causes noticeable water hammer or banging pipes during regeneration

Possible Causes
High water pressure, Rapid valve transitions, Undersized plumbing, Lack of water hammer arrestors
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: High water pressure can damage plumbing; use a pressure gauge to verify.
- Measure pressure: Attach a pressure gauge to a nearby faucet. If static pressure exceeds 80 psi, install or adjust a pressure-reducing valve.
- Slow valve transitions: Some AFWFilters controls allow adjustment of cycle start times; ensure the unit regenerates at night when demand is low.
- Install arrestors: Consider installing water hammer arrestors near the softener or at problem fixtures.
- Secure piping: Check that pipes near the softener are properly strapped and not loose.
