Possible Causes
Piston not sealing in service position, Debris under seals, Cracked valve body, Misaligned cam
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Place the unit in BYPASS to stop water waste, then unplug the softener.
- Inspect drain line: Confirm that water is indeed flowing from the drain hose during service. If so, proceed to valve inspection.
- Check cam alignment: Remove the control cover and verify that the cam is in the correct position for service when the display indicates service. If misaligned, re-index the cam according to the manual.
- Inspect piston and seals: Remove the piston and seal/spacer stack. Look for debris, resin beads, or scale preventing a tight seal. Clean the valve body and replace seals if worn.
- Check for cracks: Examine the valve body for hairline cracks around the drain port or seal areas. A cracked body will require replacement of the entire control valve head.
- Reassemble and test: After reassembly, take the unit out of bypass and verify that no water flows to drain in service mode.
