Possible Causes
Stuck or seized bypass valve, Broken bypass handle, Internal O-ring failure, Mineral buildup inside bypass
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Depressurize the system before attempting to remove or service the bypass.
- Attempt gentle movement: Try to move the bypass handle between BYPASS and SERVICE without forcing it. Do not use excessive leverage that could break the valve.
- Inspect for leaks: If the bypass leaks or will not hold position, plan to replace it.
- Replace bypass: Shut off inlet and outlet valves, disconnect plumbing as needed, and install a new AFWFilters-compatible bypass valve. Use new O-rings and apply silicone lubricant.
- Test operation: Slowly pressurize the system and check for leaks. Verify that the bypass moves smoothly and that water flows through the softener in SERVICE mode.
