How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Place the softener in bypass and unplug it. Clean up any spilled brine to prevent corrosion and slipping.
Inspect brine float:
- Remove the brine well cover and pull out the float assembly.
- Clean off salt sludge and ensure the float moves freely and the shutoff valve at the bottom seals properly.
Check drain and injector:
- Verify the drain line is clear and not kinked.
- Clean the injector/venturi so brine can be drawn out properly during regeneration.
Programming:
- Confirm the brine refill time is set correctly per AO Smith specifications.
If the brine valve continues to leak water into the tank even when not in refill, replace the brine valve assembly or brine float assembly.
