Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit and avoid standing in water near electrical outlets. Place the softener in bypass.
Inspect the brine tank:
- Remove salt from the area of the leak to see the tank wall.
- Look for visible cracks or splits in the plastic.
Check brine well and fittings:
- Inspect the brine well (inner tube) for cracks and ensure the grommet where the brine line enters is intact and sealed.
- Tighten or reseat the brine line fitting at the brine well and at the valve head.
Overflow issues:
- Remove and clean the brine float assembly; ensure it shuts off water flow at the correct level.
Cracked brine tanks or brine wells generally require replacement of the brine tank assembly or brine well assembly.
