Possible Causes
Blocked venturi injector in Aqua Dial valve head, Blocked brine line or brine elbow, Air leak at brine line connection, Clogged brine well safety float assembly
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and place the softener in bypass. Depressurise by opening a nearby tap before opening the valve head.
- Check brine level: Remove the brine tank lid. Ensure there is water in the bottom of the brine tank; a completely dry tank can indicate no refill or suction issues.
- Inspect brine line: Follow the small brine tube from the valve head to the brine well. Check for kinks, blockages, or damage. Straighten or replace if necessary.
- Clean venturi/injector: On Aqua Dial valves, the injector/venturi is usually under a small cover on the valve head. Remove the cover screws, carefully lift out the injector and nozzle, and soak them in warm water with a little vinegar to dissolve scale. Use a soft brush or toothpick (never metal) to clear the orifices. Rinse and reinstall.
- Check brine safety float: Lift the brine well cover and move the float up and down. It should move freely. If it is stuck or heavily scaled, clean it or replace the float assembly.
- Reassemble and test: Refit all parts, restore water and power, then start a manual regeneration. Observe whether brine is drawn from the tank during the brine draw stage.
