Possible Causes

Failed drive motor on Aqua Dial control valve, Jammed rotor disc or cam gear, Broken or stripped drive gear, Obstruction in valve body preventing rotation

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Isolate power to the softener. Place the unit in bypass to avoid unexpected water flow while working on the valve head.

  • Listen for motor operation: With the cover on, restore power briefly and initiate a manual regeneration. If you do not hear the motor running or feel vibration at the valve head, the motor may be faulty.
  • Remove control cover: Disconnect power again. Remove the front/top cover of the Aqua Dial control valve to expose the motor and gear train.
  • Inspect gears and cam: Look for broken teeth, loose screws, or anything jamming the cam/rotor. Remove any debris and ensure the cam can rotate by hand (do not force it; it should move smoothly with moderate pressure).
  • Check motor connections: Verify the motor wiring plug is fully seated on the control board and that there are no burnt or damaged wires.
  • Replace motor if needed: If the motor does not run when powered and wiring is intact, replace the Aqua Dial drive motor assembly according to the service manual.
  • Reassemble and test: Refit the cover, restore water and power, then run a full regeneration to confirm the valve advances through all stages.
