Possible Causes
Worn or torn main piston seals in Aqua Dial valve, Debris lodged in drain port, Stuck piston not returning to service position, Faulty cam or drive not completing cycle
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Put the softener in bypass and disconnect power. The drain line may discharge water suddenly when working on the valve.
- Confirm continuous drain: Check the drain hose from the softener. If water flows when the unit should be in service, the valve is not sealing.
- Inspect drain line: Ensure the drain line is not routed too high or kinked, which can cause backpressure and improper valve operation.
- Service piston and seals: Remove the control head cover and follow the Aqua Dial service instructions to extract the main piston and seal pack. Inspect for wear, tears, or deformation. Replace the seal kit and piston if damaged.
- Clean valve body: Wipe out any debris or scale from the valve bore before installing new seals.
- Check cam operation: Verify the cam rotates fully through all positions during a manual regeneration. If not, inspect the motor and gears.
- Reassemble and test: Refit all components, restore water and power, and confirm that the drain stops after regeneration completes.
