Possible Causes

Kinked or blocked drain hose, Blocked drain flow control insert in Aqua Dial valve, Frozen or obstructed external drain, Incorrect drain line routing causing siphoning

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Place the softener in bypass and disconnect power before removing the drain line. Be prepared for water discharge.

  • Inspect drain hose: Follow the hose from the valve to the drain point. Straighten any kinks and ensure there are no sharp bends.
  • Check drain termination: Make sure the hose is not submerged in standing water or sealed into a drain, which can cause backpressure. Maintain an air gap where required by code.
  • Clean flow control: Many Aqua Dial valves have a small flow control insert at the drain port. Remove the drain fitting and extract the insert. Rinse to remove debris and scale, then reinstall.
  • Test backwash: Restore water and power, then start a manual regeneration. Observe the drain flow during backwash. It should be strong and steady.
  • Address external issues: If the external drain is blocked or frozen, clear it or reroute the hose to a suitable drain point.
