Possible Causes
Blocked drain or backwash line causing pressure build-up, Closed outlet valve during regeneration, Faulty pressure switch or sensor, Incorrect plumbing causing dead-end pressure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Immediately place the softener in bypass and shut off the inlet valve if you suspect overpressure. Do not stand directly over fittings while depressurising.
- Check valves: Ensure the outlet valve is open during normal operation and regeneration. Never regenerate against a closed outlet.
- Inspect drain line: Confirm the drain hose is not blocked, frozen, or elevated beyond the manufacturer's limits.
- Reset switch: Some models have a manual reset on the pressure switch. Follow the manual to reset only after resolving the cause.
- Test sensor: If pressure is normal but E17 remains, the pressure switch or sensor may be faulty and should be replaced.
