Possible Causes
Clogged inlet screen, Resin bed fouled or compacted, Partially closed Aquabion bypass or isolation valves, Undersized plumbing connections
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Close inlet/outlet valves and relieve pressure before disassembling any plumbing.
- Check bypass: Ensure the Aquabion bypass valve is fully in the service position. Test pressure with the unit in bypass; if pressure improves, the restriction is within the softener.
- Clean inlet screen: Remove the inlet union and clean the inlet filter screen of sediment.
- Backwash resin: Manually initiate a regeneration and allow a full backwash cycle to loosen the resin bed. If pressure does not improve, the resin may be fouled or the distributor may be blocked.
- Inspect resin tank internals: Advanced users can remove the control head and inspect the upper and lower distributors for blockage. Severe fouling may require resin replacement.
Warning: Do not increase house pressure above Aquabion specifications to compensate; this can damage plumbing and the softener.
