Possible Causes

Stuck open brine refill valve in control head, Leaking brine valve seat, Maladjusted or failed brine safety float, Cracked brine well or loose safety float tube

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the softener. Do not reach into the brine tank with power connected. If water is near the top of the tank, shut off the inlet water or place the unit in BYPASS immediately.

Step-by-step:

  • 1. Stop the overflow: Turn the AquaHouse bypass to BYPASS. Use a small pump or bucket to remove excess water from the brine tank until the level is a few inches above the grid or bottom.
  • 2. Inspect the safety float: Remove the brine well cover (the inner tube in the brine tank). Lift the float assembly up and down; it should move freely and shut off water when raised. Clean any salt sludge or debris from the float and tube.
  • 3. Check for cracks and loose fittings: Examine the brine well tube and fittings for cracks or loose connections that could prevent the float from sealing.
  • 4. Inspect brine valve in control head: With the system depressurized, remove the brine line from the control valve. If water continues to drip or flow from the brine port when the unit is in service mode, the internal brine refill valve is leaking and needs service.
  • 5. Replace faulty parts: Install a new AquaHouse brine safety float assembly if the float sticks or does not shut off. If the valve in the head leaks, rebuild or replace the AquaHouse brine valve kit.
  • 6. Test regeneration: Restore SERVICE mode and power. Run a manual regeneration and monitor the brine refill stage to ensure the water level stops at the correct height.
