Aquasana
Insufficient Rinse / Excess Brine Carryover
Aquasana softener causes salty taste in water after regeneration
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Shortened rinse cycle in control settings, High salt dosage, Restricted drain line reducing rinse flow, Control valve not fully shifting to service position
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Salty water is usually not dangerous but can be unpleasant. Place the unit in BYPASS if taste is severe.
Steps to correct salty taste:
- 1. Check programming: Ensure the Aquasana control is set to factory rinse times. Increase final rinse duration if adjustable.
- 2. Inspect drain line: Confirm the drain line is not kinked or restricted, allowing full rinse flow.
- 3. Reduce salt dosage: If the salt setting is very high, reduce to the recommended level for your hardness and capacity.
- 4. Run extra rinse: Manually start a regeneration and allow it to complete, then run a second regeneration to flush residual salt.
- 5. Valve inspection: If salty taste persists, the Aquasana valve may not be fully shifting to service. Have a technician inspect and service the control valve.
