Possible Causes

Defective drive motor in control head, Jammed rotor/valve disc in Aquasana control valve, Broken or stripped motor gear, Motor harness disconnected or control board failure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Put the Aquasana softener in BYPASS and unplug the power adapter. Depressurize by opening a nearby cold faucet until flow stops.

Steps to troubleshoot E2 (motor/valve):

  • 1. Listen for motor operation: Plug the unit back in and attempt a manual regeneration. If the motor is silent or only hums briefly before E2 appears, suspect a motor or control issue.
  • 2. Inspect the drive motor: Remove the control head cover. Locate the small drive motor attached to the Aquasana valve body. Check that the motor mounting screws are tight and the gear is properly engaged with the valve cam/rotor.
  • 3. Check for mechanical binding: With power disconnected, gently try to rotate the valve cam/rotor by hand (if accessible per Aquasana service instructions). If it will not move or feels gritty, the internal rotor/seal pack may be jammed with resin or debris.
  • 4. Inspect wiring: Confirm the motor harness is fully seated on the control board and that no wires are damaged.
  • 5. Test motor voltage (advanced): With extreme caution and only if you are comfortable with electrical testing, plug in the unit and measure voltage at the motor leads during a regeneration start. If voltage is present but the motor does not turn, replace the motor.
  • 6. If valve is jammed: The Aquasana control valve may need to be rebuilt or replaced (rotor/seal kit). This is typically a technician-level repair.

Warning: Do not force the valve with tools; you can crack the control head.
